Most Popular Milan Events and Entertainment
The second largest city in Italy is a place of never-ending excitement, constant crowds, events and happenings. There’s always something going on, from festivals and concerts to all kinds of performances and exhibitions. The many parks around the city are often a “stage” for young musicians and bands trying to make it, and this year’s buzz has all been about the forthcoming Expo 2015.
Opera House – La Scala
One of the most popular opera houses in the world, La Scala has a long tradition of extraordinary musical performances and as such is the place for you if you want to see a world-class opera, a ballet performance or a concert. Teatro alla Scala organizes shows for children as well, with prices from €5 to €20.
The Navigli canals, a project conceived by Leonardo da Vinci, can now be explored by boat, bicycle or carriage, all the while enjoying beautiful landscapes and tasting local wines and cheeses. The tours usually last half a day or a bit longer. At the beginning of June, the Festa del Naviglio takes place near the canal, hosting theatre and dance shows, a parade and stalls displaying handmade crafts.
Milan Sports Events
Sporting Milan events are quite visited and popular. Among them F1 Grand Prix attracts numerous tourists, while the many football matches from the Italian Serie A are popular among local and tourists alike. The best Italian teams also have their shops where fans can buy souvenirs and memorabilia.
The San Siro stadium is not only the home stadium of Milan and Inter, but also a popular concert venue. Various popular musicians and bands have performed there, and several other have their concert scheduled for this summer.
Milan Fashion Week
One of the most popular Milan events is Milan’s Fashion Week, taking place from 25th February is one of the major events in this fashion capital, but admittance is granted only to those invited. However, you could still see some international models and other celebrities who come to attend it.
For all those lovers of extreme sports, the Masters of Dirt are coming to Milan in May. There are also countless festivals and carnivals organized in the city of Milan, such as Saint Ambrose Festival in December and the Carnival Ambrosiano, a few weeks before Easter, when parades are held on Piazza del Duomo. Other religious festivals include Corteo dei Re Magi, celebrating the three wise men and Tredesin de Mars, which celebrates the day when the primary religion of Milan’s people became Catholicism.
Milan Jazz Festival
The Milano Film Festival features short documentaries and workshops to discuss the impressions together with the directors. It takes place every year, in September. The Festival Latino Americano starts in June and lasts for 2 months and is characterized by everything Latin American. The beginning of November is reserved for the Milano Jazz Festival which takes a special place in the hearts of the Milanese people.
The list of events taking place in Milan all year round, is almost inexhaustible. Regardless of when you go, there’s certainly something to get your attention.
